PBA Trade Analysis: Magnolia received a shooting center!

The first trade of the 2021 season is now on the books as Magnolia traded a 2022 2nd round pick for Russell Escoto!

Escoto was part of the trade package that Terrafirma received when they gave up CJ Perez, the back-to-back scoring cham of the league.

Is the trade fair?

Yes, but it is complicated. In terms of plain skill and talent, Escoto should not be worth a single 2nd round pick. If we add his issues for injuries, then he should be worth two 2nds, at the very least.

The problem is, he was coming from the Beermen where he was only used as an end-of-the-bench player in the PBA bubble when he could have gotten more opportunity with the injury of Fajardo.

TEAM GRADE (A - highest, F - lowest)
Terrafirma

I think Escoto could have been a useful piece for them. Although, Escoto may be a headache in the long run because he already asked for a trade in the past. So, getting a middling grade should be enough for the Dyip franchise.
Grade - D

Magnolia
I think this is an excellent trade for Magnolia. They received a bigman that they need in terms of depth. And that bigman can shoot from beyond the arc. And shooting is a problem for them. He could be a good partner to Ian. Ian is good enough to be a monster against single coverage.
Grade - B
