PBA Analysis: Is TNT's Troy Rosario better than Ranidel de Ocampo?

The tournament this year will be too quick that every Player of the Week citation could be twice the worth of the ones given in the previous years.

And surprisingly, Troy Rosario got the nod last week, before the PBA decided to suspend the games because of the sudden surge in cases caused by the Delta Variant of COVID-19. Take note though that it was the decision of the PBA and was not forced by the IATF.

When asked about the sudden resurgence in the game of Troy, coach Chot Reyes revealed that he told Troy that he do not want him to be the Ranidel de Ocampo of this team.

And Troy is responding with an excellent start in this season.

Troy is averaging 14.0 points, 10.7 rebounds, 0.7 assist, 0.3 steal, 13% 3FG and 50% FG in 29.5 minutes per game.

The reality is, those numbers are not that reflective of Ranidel. Ranidel is putting up much better 3FG% and assist numbers. But his rebounding will be lower.

You can say that I am one of the biggest fans of the archetype of a Rosario. He is a versatile defender, who is an excellent off-the-ball scorer.

With his athleticism, I do believe that he can still be better. The reality is, a big portion of his scoring output was a by-product of his aggressiveness and activity.
