Rain or Shine started the 2021 Philippine Cup the right way, winning their first three games against NLEX, Meralco and Blackwater.
And then, they were humiliated by Alaska Aces, limiting them to 48 points! It was a historically bad performance that the players may have even gotten nightmares from it.
Fortunately, they are still on a good 4-2 card and may have the best schedule in a potential sprint to the finish of this tournament.
With the current pause of the tournament, Rain or Shine may want to consider adding a point guard. Rain or Shine is currently second-to-the-last in terms of assists.
According to PBA on the Go, Alex Mallari could be their target. Mallari produced 4.4 points, 2.5 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game in the PBA bubble.
He was not given that much playing time in Phoenix because he was injured at the beginning. It could be another story in Rain or Shine because the rookie guards of Rain or Shine are struggling.
It was expected that young guards like Asistio, Caracut and Johnson will have a hard time taking care of the second unit.
Mallari will surely be capable right away. He will also be a good fit playing with the long and tall wings of Rain or Shine.
Also, coach Gavina used Alex well when they were together in the Dyip franchise.
