The Gomez de Liano brothers, Dwight Ramos, Kobe Paras, Thirdy Ravena and many more decided to play for an International league.
This means that the upcoming 2021 PBA draft is at risk of being a shallow one. It is logical because those players may not be available because they are playing in an International league.
If you think about it though, it can still turn into a historically deep draft. The amateur players can still join the upcoming draft, just like how Ray Parks was able to join even though he decided to finish his ABL season during his draft year.
Also, the 2020 PBA draft taught us that more amateur players are now warry about joining the PBA, as early as possible because amateur leagues are having a hard time getting clearance to play because of the pandemic.
Which team should take advantage then?
Alaska who is currently at 2-4 may want to appreciate this opportunity. What opportunity? The opportunity to be a top 3 pick of the upcoming draft.
They currently have the 2nd lowest number of wins. Giving them a legit chance of ending up with the 2nd worst record.
Even if a 2nd tournament will be pushing through, having the 2nd lowest pick will now give them a huge leverage moving forward.
That could assure them a top 5 pick even if they do well in the 2nd tournament.
A top 5 pick could mean one of Jason Brickman, Jeremiah Grey and Taylor Statham. Do not count out Kobe Paras, Thirdy Ravena and Dwight Ramos.
