Northport Batang Pier is a farm team of the San Miguel Corporation. The evidence in the past decade is simply too much to even defend Northport from that claim.
Fortunately for them in their last two trades, Northport may have actually improved their roster. In totality, Northport traded Sean Anthony, Sean Manganti, a 2nd round pick, Sidney Onwubere for Arwind Santos, Michael Calisaan and Art Dela Cruz.
To be honest, value-wise, they lost in that trade. But, if we are only talking about this upcoming tournament, Northport will have a better chance now.
Actually, it is due to a single player, Arwind Santos.
I strongly believed that Santos is the perfect partner to Greg Slaughter. Let us hope and pray that Northport will not trade one of their core players again and retain Greg, Robert Bollick, Jamie Malonzo and Kevin Ferrer.
With a Santos-Slaughter tandem, the defense of Northport is suddenly a fortress that teams will be having a hard time, penetrating.
Slaughter's size plus Santos' length and rim protection are so perfect in building up a defense. I just hope coach Pido Jarencio will not screw this around.
On offense, Arwind will make it easier for Greg to dominate the paint because Arwind is a respected three-point sniper.
