There is no doubt that coach Tim Cone will end up being the Greatest coach of all time in the PBA. I do not question his greatness as a coach.
But, that doesn't mean that all his opinions are true. Especially if his words are contradicting his words. You will see.
Of course, I am talking about his statements in defending the trade of Northport' Sidney Onwubere for Art Dela Cruz, read in Spin.ph.
To simplify our opinion about the trade, trading a player who just broke out in the most recent conference for a guy who has never been healthy in his entire career and did not play a single game in the most recent tournament, is not fair.
This is the most mystifying statement from coach Tim Cone.
Art was the guy I really pursued to bring to Ginebra. Needless to say, we had great hope for him, but he’s had problems staying healthy. He is healthy now and if he can stay healthy, he’s a premier player in the league
He said that they have great hopes for him. And yet, they traded him. And the funny thing is, they traded him for a guy who actually plays a position that Ginebra is much deeper on.
Then, he said that Art has a problem of staying healthy and then defended it by saying that he is healthy now.
The magic word is "staying". If you are confident that he can stay healthy, why did you trade him?
