For Magnolia, the biggest rumor is still about them targeting Greg Slaughter. The current package as per PBA on the Go is Jackson Corpuz, Justin Melton and draft picks.
Is there a way for this trade to be fair?
Let us dissect. Corpuz is a credible starter but has two glaring weaknesses. His defense and three-point shooting. For me, he can only cover 35% of the value of Greg.
Justin Melton is a superb guard but he may not be a starting-caliber already. So, at most, he can cover 20% of the trade value of Greg.
Now, let us assume that the draft picks involved in the trade are two 1st round picks. Knowing how good Magnolia is, those picks are more likely to fall on the 9th to 12th spots. If that is the case, combining those two should be able to cover 30% of the value of Greg.
If we combine everything, I think the package of Corpuz, Melton and two 1st round picks is only equitable to 85% of that of Greg.
Now, that is only true if we are talking about a Greg Slaughter who will play in the PBA. But, according to PBA on the Go, the trade is also not happening because of the risk that Greg will go to Japan.
If Greg will do that, Northport may even win that trade.
