I was disappointed earlier this week when Kai Sotto was not part of a list of International draft entrants. I thought that he will not join.
Fortunately, he will and I think it is the right decision. Being drafted in the NBA is not about how good you are right now. It is all about the reasons why they will draft you.
So, what are the three reasons why Kai will be drafted into the NBA?
#1 Size
The reality is, that Kai will be one of the 10 tallest players in the NBA if he plays there. Height is still might in the NBA. It is not as easy in the past but Kai did show that he is more than his height. He has good enough skills to provide glimpses of being useful in the NBA.
#2 Nimbleness
It is true that Kai's strength is a weakness but on the other end of the spectrum, his nimbleness for his size is very good. That means improving his handling and passing will have a much better impact on his game.
#3 marketing
Kai can bring around a hundred million eyeballs to the team that will draft him. Remember that Dallas drafted an Indian player who is also very tall and a few years later, that player is outside the NBA. That draftee is now a professional wrestler in AEW. Remember, Clarkson was drafted by the Lakers.
