In the trade between NLEX Road Warriors and Converge Fibers, some fans saw it as a win for NLEX.
One of their argument is that the next draft should be way deeper than this year knowing the high number of top names who passed this year.
Almost all of those top names decided not to join because they want to play in an International league.
For next year's draft to be much deeper, then the players should conclude that it is time to play in the PBA.
For that to happen though, the severity of the reasons why they left should be reduced.
What are the primary reasons why they left?
Bigger money and better league. Can the PBA offer bigger money next year? Of course not. We did not even heard the board discussing the current maximum salary even though increasing it could be the best initial reaction against the increasing number of blue chip prospects who are playing abroad.
The second reason is even much harder to overcome. The PBA has the EASL to prove that they are a better league but the decreasing number of top amateur prospects who are entering the league is also reducing their chances of dominating that International competition.
In short, if you think next year majority of Dwight Ramos, Thirdy Ravena, Kobe Paras, Justine Baltazar, Rhenz Abando, Sedrick Barefield and Juan Gomez De Liano will be joining the draft, think again.
PBA is now just the second option for our top young basketball players. Gone are the days that it is the symbol of success as a Pinoy basketball player.
