A national team headed by a head coach in the PBA will not work. What we saw though, as recently as last year, was a national team brimming with potential led by a coach outside the PBA.
Unfortunately, the top management of Gilas and the MVP group broke everything. We are not yet sure what transpired but what we are sure right now is that the upcoming participation of our national team in the 2023 FIBA World Cup that will be held here in our country is on the brink of being a disaster.
And again, just a year ago, we are all excited about it because the team led by coach Tab Baldwin was showing this amount of promise that is worth holding into!
As seen in the SEA games, PBA players have a hard time jelling. Add the reality that they will be having a full-blown season in the PBA and it is really hard for me to see them succeed as the foundation of our national team.
Unfortunately, the Gilas amateur pool is almost disseminated already. So, how can coach Tab save our national team?
Just put him there. and just give the guy all the powers that he wants. The pride and honor of Philippine basketball is already in the line here. We need the best man for the job.
It is not coach Chot and it is not really about coach Chot's ability. It is more about his situation and issues all together.
Coach Chot cannot save our upcoming 2023 FIBA World Cup campaign. Any other coach will also likely to falter because of the pressure and the lack of time at this point.
Coach Tab is the only guy who has the experience and who has the trust of a pool of talented players that can carry our flag next year.
I am talking about the Ravena brothers, Dwight Ramos, Justin Baltazar and the UAAP stars who will still be there next year.
Add the reality that the MVP group will still support the program and I think we can still come up with a quality roster for the tournament.
Gilas should wake up and lower their pride and apologize to both coaches and then bring back coach Tab as the mastermind of our national team!
