Even though Converge is a company that earns billions every year, the fans of the PBA is not easily falling into believing that they are a legit team.
That is the product of being fed of lopsided trades after lopsided trades. That is the result of watching two franchises who have been getting top 3 picks but for the entirety of the histories of those two franchises, a glimpse of improvement was not even found.
When Converge decided to retain the entire roster and the coaching staff, a lot of fans thought that they are committing a mistake in coach Jeff Cariaso.
To be fair with coach Jeff, he did manage to build an elite defense in the most recent tournament and that made them watchable.
But overall, his performance as the coach of Alaska is not that promising. Especially with his incapacity of making their offense, modern.
So, the rumor that coach Aldin Ayo will be signed as an assistant coach of the team and that he is in-line to takeover the head coaching job by the second conference, should put a smile into the faces of the fans of Converge.
There is a good argument that coach Aldin is the biggest free agent coach in the market. Yes, he is even a bigger fish right now than coach Alex Compton.
That is because of his success in the college rank. Remember that he was basically getting respect at the same level as coach Tab Baldwin.
So, if Converge is really planning to do this, I hope they will push through. This is the type of move that will really help them legitimize their image as a serious team in the league.
