We are less than a month away from the new season of the PBA. This upcoming season is brewing to be a special one.
Unfortunately for Phoenix, the face of their franchise is still not signed. I am still hoping for a miracle that Phoenix will retain him for the sake of parity of the league.
Although, Snow Badua stated that one of the SMC teams is the most likely destination.
If that is the case, let us rank the three SMC teams according to the fit with Matthew.
#3 San Miguel
Matthew's main selling point is his scoring ability. Making him the next Marcio Lassiter will be a disappointing outcome for such a talent like Matthew because he can carry more offensive load. Unless one of CJ Perez or Terrence Romeo will be part of the deal, I do not think it will be a good thing to deal for Wright.
#2 Ginebra
I can see a way where Ginebra can be an awesome fit for Matthew. But my problem is that, it is hard for me to see a package that will not involve one of the core players of Ginebra unless Phoenix will do "farm" team like deal. Although, it is very intriguing for me to witness a Pringle-Wright-Thompson trio.
#3 Magnolia
Out of the three SMC teams, Magnolia may have the best space for a ball-dominant ace-type player like Wright. They are also the team with the highest degree of need for a shooter. Yes, coach Victolero already denied the Lee-Wright swap but he did not deny that they can trade for Matthew.
