2022 Top 100 Players: 100th to 51st - Ginebra dominates!

Finally, we are done with our fourth ever top 100 lists! We will present today the 100th to 51st rank player. And then the next one will be the 50th to 26th.

To rank them, we used the following criteria.

Scoring (S) - 30

Primarily, this is the ability of the player to score. Their points per game were the primary statistics that were scrutinized but we also give a huge weight on the efficiency of the player. We also factor in the fact that there are a hundred ways to score. So the more ways a player scores efficiently will also increase his points in this area.

Defense (D) - 30

Defense represents 50% of the game for a player. This score will take into account the ability of the player to stop someone, man-to-man. Now, the defense is not all about man-to-man but also about the capacity of a player to work in the defensive scheme of a team. Enjoined in this area is the ability of the player to get rebounds and to help his team control the flow of the game.

Offense (O) - 25

Scoring is the only goal of offense but the other factors that will pave the way for good scoring opportunities will reside in this area. Primarily, this is about the ability of the player to break down defenses and make plays for his teammates. Added to this is the intelligence of the player in making the right plays, reads and positions in helping out the team take a good shot.

Intangibles (I) - 15

There are four other elements of a player that basically form this criterion. They are leadership, chemistry, clutch, and health. Those four are not part of the first three but actually elevate a player. A good example is LA Tenorio. LA is not as valuable as the Tenorio that we know today without his ability to command and his 100% health status.

In the case of ties, they will be ranked according to age with the youngest being the highest. The previous performances of the players were also considered in assessing them.

Rank. Name of the Player. Scoring/Defense/Offense/Intangibles

#100 S. Onwubere 9.5/14.5/10.5/8

#99 J. Gabayni 9/15.5/10/8

#98 J. Devance 7/11/14/11

#97 C. Cruz 10/13/13/7

#96 P. Caperal 10.5/11/13.5/8

Onwubere had a breakout conference in the Philippine cup with Northport. He showed a high number of good skills. Now that he is with Ginebra, there is a good chance that he may not find enough minutes to keep his name in this list.

Joseph is a big traditional center that has showcased good fundamentals. Terrafirma is giving him the opportunity and I think he can deliver.

Next is a legend in Joe Devance. Of course, we all know him as the player-wife of coach Tim Cone and up to his last season, he managed to help Ginebra win a crown.

Carl Bryan Cruz found his way to TNT. Health has been his biggest weakness but inside the court, Carl is one of the most reliable 3-and-D in the game.

Unfortunately for Prince, finding minutes behind Japeth Aguilar and Christian Standhardinger is not that easy. Still, though, he is 6'6 with a three-point shot.

#95 K. Nabong 11.5/12/14/6

#94 D. Marcelo 8/15.5/12/8

#93 J. Elorde 7/11.5/16/9.5

#92 A. Mariano 11.5/15.5/10/7

#91 J. Pascual 6/17/12.5/9

I do understand that a lot of you are not a fan of Nabong but the guy produced 11.6 points, 5.2 rebounds, 1.6 assists and 1.2 three-pointers made per game. He will bring physicality to your team that can haunt your opponents.

Dave played a good role in the title conquest of TNT in the Philippine Cup. Dave's biggest selling point is defense and screening. Underrated things but both are good ingredients to have for a bigman.

I think you may have not noticed but Nico is actually not in the line-up of Northport. He was the back-up point guard of Northport in the last few years and he did well in that role.

Aljon Mariano was bewildered with injury last season. Nevertheless, his combination of good scoring and awesome defense is well-established.

Jake is that type of center who are really diligent in doing the small things. From boxing out to good defensive digs.

#90 M. Tolomia 13.5/8/15/8

#89 S. Sumang 16/6/12/11

#88 A. Tolentino 12.5/11/14/7.5

#87 R. Hugnatan 9.5/13/11/12

#86 R. Garcia 10/6/19/10.5

Mike entered the league with a lot of hype but failed to find a home. Fortunately, he kept working and he seems to have found a stable one in Converge.

Another highly-regarded guard who has been a journeyman in his entire career. After a good showing for Northport last Governors' Cup, I hope people will continue to appreciate his excellent blend of quickness, touch and handle.

Arvin's role in Ginebra is slowly growing. As long as he continues to keep working on his game, Arvin can still end up as a starter in the next few years.

Here is another legend who is still playing pretty well in the league. Reynel should be retired by now but why should we push him if he is still a good stretch bigman.

Garcia's career is full of controversies and disappointment. What is pretty obvious though is his high skill level and awesome playmaking.

#85 B. Amer 12.5/8/15/10

#84 M. Digregorio 11/9/15/11

#83 K. Ferrer 9.5/13/15.5/9

#82 M. Borboran 6/19.5/12/9

#81 J. Dillinger 10/13/13/11

A lot of people is anointing Baser as a bust although he did have two almost All-Star level season in Meralco. Now in Blackwater, he is having a hard time finding his old The Hammer form.

DiGregorio is one of the best shooters in the league. His efficiency was down this year but he still provides that spacing and he is a good teammate.

Ferrer is easily one of the guys who are far away from their real potential. He is a legit 6'5 shooting guard but failed to print impressive numbers last season.

Is Borboran the most underrated defender in the league? He is one of the few who can defend all positions and he always has a very good defensive play every game.

I really thought Jared will retire this year but Ginebra managed to convince him to play one more year. His slashing is not as good as before but his overall skill level is still high.

#80 R. Jazul 11/11/16/10

#79 K. Rosales 9/15/13/11

#78 A. Semerad 10/15/16/7

#77 R. Brondial 7/16/16/9.5

#76 P. Cahilig 10/17/13.5/9

Believe it or not but RJ is already 36 years old! He remains to be a deadshot from beyond the arc with good playmaking.

Are you even aware about Kris Rosales? He is one of the main guards in NLEX and provided 7.2 points, 42% 3FG, 2.2 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.3 steals last Governors' Cup.

Semerad is one of the established 3-and-D forward in the league. Has the size to defend the big positions and he should be defended because he can shoot.

I continue to appreciate the game of Brondial. He is undersize for a bigman but with his quickness and underrated offensive skills, he usually delivers good things for his team.

Cahilig is one of the guys that Terrafirma developed into a legit PBA player. He is a big wingman that can do a lot of things. Although he lacks an elite skill.

#75 A. Dionisio 7.5/23/11.5/8

#74 A. Black 10.5/15/16/8.5

#73 M. Ahanmisi 13/12/17.5/8

#72 A. Tratter 13/16/13/8.5

#71 N. Pinto 11/15/16/9

Dionisio remains to be one of the most interesting young guys in the league. His defense showed up very well last year. If his offense continues to improve, Aris will rise in this ranking.

Black was a revelation last season. Yes, nepotism is a valid accusation against him but the guy is a legit PBA player. He produced 9.8 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game.

Maverick finally signed with Converge. He has some injury concerns but in terms of performance, Maverick is a top-notch guard.

Tratter is still not signed to a new contract. I will not be shocked if Abu is trying to ask for more money because of his good performance last season.

Nard Pinto got his wish and now with Barangay Ginebra. He had an excellent season with Meralco. He showed them that he can be a starter in a good team.

#70 B. Quinto 11.5/13/16.5//10

#69 J. Corpuz 15/15.5/14/7

#68 S. Enciso 18.5/8/17/8

#67 A. Ramos 16.5/13/16.5/6

# 66 R. McCarthy 15.5/12/16.5/8

Quinto is one of the most interesting wing in the league because, on offense, he is heavily used as a post-up threat. Add his very good passing and Meralco has a unique weapon in their hands.

Another unique type of player is Corpuz. His three-point shooting is still very bad but defensively, he is improving. He should continue to improve and save his role in Magnolia.

Remember the import who was bewildered about the opportunity that Simon was getting? It made sense in a way because the first step and athleticism of Simon is pretty obvious but at the end of the day, he has flaws.

Ramos managed to build up his reputation again last season. A legit 6'6 with a very good three-point shooting. I wonder if a contender will soon trade for him.

Rashawn was as solid as expected last season. He averaged 11.3 points, 1.6 three-pointers made, 2.7 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game in the Governors' Cup.

#65 P. Taha 13.5/16/15/8

#64 E. Daquioag 9.5/16.5/15/11.5

#63 Y. Taha 11/23/10/9

#62 S. Santillan 11/19.5/13.5/9

#61 R. Reyes 9/19.5/16.5/8.5

Paolo Taha is one of the most underrated versatile wings in the country. Last Philippine, he managed a mini breakout of 11,2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 57% FG per game.

Ed found his way to the two farm teams last season and he got the much-needed playing time to show-off his athleticism. Unfortunately, he is still inefficient but he did show average defense.

Taha was a revelation last season when he was given a chance by the Alaska Aces. He showed post moves and aggressiveness on both ends of the court.

The rookie season of Santillan was not as eventful as his peers but he did showcase a versatile skillset. He has all the tools to take over the role vacated by Javee Mocon.

Ryan Reyes is already 38 years old but he is still one of the most effective 3-and-D guard in the league. He cannot consistently breakdown the defense anymore but he is still one of the hardest guard to breakdown.

#60 J. Ponferada 10/18/17.5/8

#59 G. Banal 10/17/17.5/9

#58 K. Montalbo 12.5/18/14.5/8.5

#57 C. Oftana 16.5/16.5/12.5/8

#56 R. Soyud 11.5/19/15/8.5

I hope more fans will appreciate Jewel Ponferada. Yes, he is not putting up crazy numbers but defensively, he can switch most of the time. His help defense is fine. And his screening is effective.

Banal delivered an excellent return conference in the Philippine Cup where he manufactured 8.7 points, 1.7 three-pointers made, 45% 3FG, 3.5 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

Kib is the most hated guard in the country right now but for TNT fans, I am pretty sure you saw him develop into a starting caliber guard. Not flashy but he is effective on both ends of the court.

Calvin was hampered by injury in his rookie season but we did saw enough to say that he has what it takes to become the face of the NLEX franchise in the near future.

Same as Jewel, Soyud also deserves some recognition for how effective he is in contributing to winning. He is excellent at cutting and is a willing three-point shooter.

#55 R. Adams 16/14/16/8

#54 Jerich. Cruz 15.5/14.5/16.5/8

#53 R. dela Rosa 10/23.5/11.5/9.5

#52 M. Belo 17/13.5/15.5/9

#51 J. Munzon 15.5/16.5/14.5/8.5

I do not think Adams was a bust. Just look at his numbers Philippine Cup statline of 11.2 points, 38% 3FG and 7.4 rebounds per game. He can really shoot from beyond the arc. Unfortunately, he already decided to leave the league.

Jericho Cruz decided to leave coach Yeng Guiao and NLEX Road Warriors to ride the bench of San Miguel. That is very sad knowing that he deserves more minutes than what he is receiving in SMB.

Rome was carried by his defense. He is easily one of the most consistent defenders in the league. With his size, he can lockdown multiple positions. A type of player that is hard to find in the league.

Mac Belo went to Meralco and rooted in the bench in the Governors' Cup. Before that though, he has an acceptable Philippine cup where he produced 10.1 points, 41% FG, 5.2 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

Being the #1 pick in the draft where Mikey Williams was #4 will make it really hard for Munzon to be appreciated. He also suffered an injury that ended his season early but before that, he did deliver a fine Philippine Cup.
