If you are a fan of the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, I am pretty sure you are sad right now with the current performance of your favorite team.
They are currently on track to end up being eliminated in the ongoing tournament. A sight that is not usually seen in the Philippine Cup for Rain or Shine.
But if you open your mind to the reality of professional team basketball, you will realize that Rain or Shine is finally going to the path that can take them back to title contention.
What path? Tanking.
In a league where drafting is the only way for teams to get blue chip prospects, losing is not actually a bad idea. There are even arguments out there that it is way better to just loss every game and take that #1 pick than reach the playoffs every year just to bow out in the quarterfinals.
At this point, Rain or Shine can just swallow the bitter pill this year and potentially be one of the most exciting team to watch out for next year.
Why?
If they tank it out and secure one of the top 3 pick and Phoenix continue their so-so play, Rain or Shine may have two of the top 5 picks.
Yes, anticipating the draft to be as loaded as the ones in the pasts is already not a good idea. But, we do have a lot of blue-chip prospects already who can be part of the Gilas draft.
Rain or Shine just needs at least two of those and they may end up with a high quality picks. Just imagine if they get one of Thirdy Ravena, Dwight Ramos, Kobe Paras or Justine Baltazar?
Then another one of Deschon Winston, Will Gozum, Ken Tuffin and CJ Cansino?
Rain or Shine will suddenly have the talent to contend in the 2023-2024 season.
