PBA Analysis: San Miguel coaching changed!

I have been advocating for a coaching change in San Miguel for a very long time. Specially with their current title drought.

When we say coaching change, of course I am talking about replacing coach Leo Austria with another head coach. 

But, coaching change can also happen if that current coach changes or evolved! Is that what is happening right now with coach Leo Austria?

Here are the numbers!

Offense has always been the calling card of coach Leo's San Miguel. That is happening again this year. They are #1 in scoring. The same thing happened in last year's Philippine Cup.

Here is the big difference now. San Miguel is suddenly the #1 team in terms of assists per game! That is a huge improvement from their #6 finish last year and #8 in 2019,

It seems like the absence of ball dominant guys, Terrence Romeo, Chris Ross and Vic Manuel, pushed coach Leo to a heavier passing offense and it is working!

Defensively, SMB is also showing a massive improvement! They are now fourth in defensive rating. They are eight last year!

With these improvements, I actually think that SMB is back as a legit title contender. But, what will happen once majority of their injured players, return?
