I agree with the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas about what they wrote regarding the situation of Will Navarro.
Will signed a contract that binds him to it. He signed it. So, he should be cleared by the SBP and the PBA before he is allowed to play in another league.
But actually, the statement also indirectly shows that Will can be allowed to play in Korea. He just need to be cleared.
That is how contracts work. It is only a law between the parties who are in it. If all parties agree to end it, then it will end.
But if the PBA and the SBP will go this route, let me explain a potential repercussion.
The amateur players who are considering to start at the PBA before trying the International league will not even consider it already because they may find themselves in the situation of Navarro.
In short, those who wants to take a chance on International league should not consider ever joining the PBA now to avoid the risk of being the next Navarro.
The PBA can shackle the players who are current under contract with them but, players will always bow down to father time and contracts always end.
They will need new stars to sustain the quality of the league. This situation will surely not help to accomplish that.
I thought they are afraid about the PBA dying. But they are more than willing to push Filipino ballers to stop considering the PBA.
Maybe, they are more afraid about something else.
