So, finally the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas made decisive moves in building up a pool of naturalize players for our national team.
I wonder why they failed to do it in the last few years and they are just being decisive now that we are a year away from the 2023 FIBA World Cup.
So, they have Justin Brownlee and Cameron Oliver as candidates for the spots. The question now is, will it be worth it?
For Justin Brownlee, I think he is deserving of being part of the pool because of several reasons. The first one is his familiarity with the play of the PBA players in the national team. That will make him a positive in building up chemistry.
Him being a wingman in the International League also means that our local bigman will get the whole portion of the frontline minutes, helping their development.
Lastly, I think we will not have a problem in terms of his availability. Thus, he can be the on-call import for the lower-level tournaments like the SEA Games.
I am actually excited to see him mesh with the best line-up that we can craft around him. I love his style of play and I think he can be a positive for our national team.
