The tournament is getting hotter and hotter. Ginebra jus gave Bay Area their first defeat! San Miguel and TNT did not start the right way.
So, how should we rank them now?
#11 Phoenix
It seems like it is already inevitable that the Phoenix franchise will be sold. It is good that they finally won a game. I am not sure though if they can sustain their good form.
#10 NLEX
I still have a hard time trusting NLEX at this point. Fortunately for them, Earl Clark is looking like a legit elite import. Can he carry NLEX to a deep playoff run?
#9 Northport
This team did well in their first four games but the talent level is just not high enough to trust them at this point. Bolick is a monster with his 28.0 points, 3.0 rebounds and 6.3 assists. Unfortunately, he needs to sustain those numbers or else Northport will slide in the standings.
#8 Rain or Shine
Rain or Shine did not do anything but they are already playing like a different team with coach Yeng Guiao. They only have one local player at 30+ minutes per game in Rey Nambatac and Rey is struggling.
#7 Converge
Converge is at 1-2 but their defeats at the hand of Bay Area and Magnolia were close ones. Although, it is pretty obvious that coach Aldin Ayo is still calibrating his players.
#6 Meralco
Three games in and the Meralco management better look for a potential replacement for Johnny O'bryant. 30.7 points, 16.3 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 1.7 steals and 1.0 block are good stats but the 41% efficiency is killing the Orange nation.
#5 Magnolia
Magnolia just breathed a sigh of relief because Rakocevic did not end up with a long-term injury. Nevertheless, that scare can still have an impact on his aggressiveness.
#4 San Miguel
I can accept any order of the top 4. I am choosing SMB to be at the bottom of the title contenders for now because they have the biggest question mark in terms of the fit of their import.
#3 TNT
I am really skeptical about Cam Oliver when he was chosen by TNT, specially when he was also chosen as a Gilas naturalized player. By the look of it, Oliver could be something special and he seems to be a great fit with TNT.
#2 Bay Area
Their undefeated run ended at the hands of Ginebra. Nevertheless, they still have a huge advantage of having two elite imports available on their disposal, moving forward. And of course, that 7'5 monster.
#1 Ginebra
The addition of Malonzo is not obvious on the offensive end but on the defensive end, he is a perfect fit. With him and Brownlee, Ginebra created a fortress for Bay Area even the fire of Dragons cannot destroy. I am excited to see how other teams will try to penetrate it.
