The 2022 PBA draft is not a historically deep draft. Actually, the hype was very low during the draft. Fortunately, two second round picks stepped up and prove that the last draft is not that bad!
The whole first round of the draft is still up on the air if there was even a good pick there. That now makes the ongoing Rookie of the Year race, very exciting!
#5 Encho Serrano
We have a tight race for the last spot of this ranking between Encho Serrano and Gian Mamuyac. I went with Serrano because of the higher possibility that he will get more opportunity moving forward. Tio already found his way with coach Topex Robinson. Serrano may get there soon.
#4 Justin Arana
People continue to pile up praises for Justin. Currently, his 11.3 points, 68% FG, 7.3 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 2.0 blocks statline is not being noticed by a lot of people. I trust coach Aldin Ayo to continue the good path of development for Arana.
#3 Brandon Ganuelas-Rosser
Some people are already anointing Brandon as a bust. Those people are judging too early. Yes, Brandon is not putting up monstrous numbers as expected but his rim protection was even better than advertise.
#2 Renato Ular
The 2nd round pick who surprised the entire PBA universe in the Philippine Cup. Ular was special. His touch is as prestine as you can get. His numbers this Commissioner's Cup is not that good but with his momentum from the Philippine Cup, he is one of the top contender for the ROY!
#1 Tyler Tio
Another out of nowhere eruption from a rookie. I thought Tyler will be a good role player. I never thought he can be a main guard, right away! His current season numbers of 13.3 points, 50% FG, 46% 3FG, 2.0 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game is as good as you can get!
