After a successful stint of Gilas in this FIBA Asian Qualifying tournament this November, it is time to give my updated Gilas 12 for FIBA 2023.
Guards:
Jordan Clarkson
Scottie Thompson
CJ Perez
Jordan Clarkson is balling in the NBA with a team that they are expecting to tank. Scottie sealed his role as the main local playmaker in this most recent window. CJ is our lockdown athletic defender who can be a match up nightmare for slow-footed teams.
Wings:
RR Pogoy
Ray Parks
Dwight Ramos
I consider all of these three as 3-and-D wings. Although, none of them are really elite from beyond the arc. Defensively though, all of them are capable and with different intensity and style.
Forwards:
Carl Tamayo
Jamie Malonzo
Calvin Oftana
Carl Tamayo and Calvin Oftana are important to this squad because they can be our main source of three point shooting that our team needs. Defensively, they can either make it or break it. They need to develop their chemistry with the team though.
Bigs:
Kai Sotto
Junemar Fajardo
Japeth Aguilar
At this point, I think almost all are agreeing that this is the three bigs that Gilas will get for 2023. I actually hope that Jordan Clarkson can be a local player so that a bigman naturalize import can further level-up this team.
