The first half of that game was dominated by the San Miguel Beermen. Their offense was unstoppable that I even started to think that coach Leo Austria is improving as a coach!
Second half happened and Barangay Ginebra reminded me that the Never Say Die spirit is still in the team. They stole the victory after overcoming a 19-points disadvantage.
Did the referee helped them win the game?
The discussion is centered around the play where Devon Scott, SMB import, was out-balance after a scramble for the ball.
The claim of Devon is, Scottie Thompson bumped into him. Causing him to hit the floor and turning the ball over. Also, giving the victory to Ginebra.
Chris Ross supported the claim of the import through his social media. But, even San Miguel fans expressed that they did not saw it as a foul.
The replay is also clear that Devon fell to the ground on his own. There is no clear contact from Scottie. Also, even if there is contact, Devon failed to catch it properly.
So, they are in a loose-ball situation. And knowing that they are in the dying seconds, the referee will allow more physicality. Being in a loose-ball means there is no clear handler of the ball and that means the usual foul on a ball-handler cannot be called.
