There is no question that in the last few tournaments, TNT is one of the elite teams. With their victory in the 2021 PBA Philippine Cup, the respect for TNT was back.
Actually, they again reached the finals of the 2022 PBA Philippine Cup. A clear evidence that they are one of the top 3 teams now.
Then the 2022 PBA Commissioner's Cup arrived. They brought an NBA veteran as an import and there fans were excited.
Cameron Oliver was fine but he failed to meet the hype for a player that was suggested to be naturalized even before he played his first game in the country.
And I think that is the primary reason of their demise. Cameron was fine as an import but his fit with TNT was really bad.
The guy scored efficiently in the PBA but he did not pass enough to keep his teammates engaged and to keep the flow well.
When you have a Mikey Williams, Jayson Castro and RR Pogoy, there is no point in getting an import who will focus heavily on scoring.
I do understand if you expect coach Chot Reyes to be the reason. Maybe he is, if he was the one who decided to go with Cameron Oliver.
