The Most Improved Player award is always the most interesting one for me. Everyone is a candidate and there are a lot of potential paths to the awards.
So, let me present to you my current top 10 candidates.
#10. Jamie Malonzo
It is not shocking to me that Jamie is now rising to grab one of the top 15 position in our Top 100 PBA players ranking. With Barangay Ginebra, his role is smaller in terms of touch but he is also developing his game to impact winning better.
#9 Calvin Oftana
The batchmate of Malonzo who was also traded to one of the elite teams in the PBA. He has pump his current stats this year to 14.9 points, 45% FG, 35% 3FG, 7 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.4 steals per game.
#8 Javee Mocon
I was shocked with the current production of Javee now that Matthew Wright has left Phoenix. He struggled in the Philippine Cup but with a more defined role, he is thriving. He is one of the most complete player in the PBA and he is showing it this year.
#7 Aris Dionisio
The mainstream media will usually miss players who are showing sustained improvement like Aris. Aris is now shooting 43% from beyond the arc. That is 4% improvement from last year. All his traditional boxscore stats increased other than Steals.
#6 Baser Amer
Amer was trusted into a big role in Blackwater and he is exhibiting that he can still be that guy. He is currently averaging 12.4 points, 42% FG, 2.2 rebounds and 2.9 assists per game. Add his exploits in crunchtime and Amer is a good candidate for this award.
