Now that we are almost at the finish line of the elimination round of the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup, we will just focus on the top 5 title contenders.
We have a very interesting elimination round and this last few days of elimination will surely be exciting with the injury to Junemar Fajardo and the new import of Converge.
So, here is my top 5 title contenders!
#5 San Miguel Beermen
The injury to Junemar Fajardo will be a huge blow for the Beermen. Although, it will be an excellent test too for coach Jorge Gallent. He still have a championship-caliber roster. Is he really better than coach Leo Austria?
#4 Meralco Bolts
Meralco Bolts has a silent elimination round performance but behind that is a team that is #2 in Opponent Points per game and #2 in 3FG efficiency. In short, they are a 3-and-D team. And this type of teams can make a shocking run in the playoffs.
#3 NLEX Road Warriors
It is easy to underrate NLEX because of the trades that they had made in the past few years. In reality, they are the only team in this tournament with two local players averaging more than 15 points, 2 assists and 40% 3FG per game.
#2 TNT Tropang Giga
TNT is having their own injury concerns but the problems of SMC squads are worse. TNT import may not even hit his peak form. And this is the thing that I am looking forward in the playoffs.
#1 Barangay Ginebra San Miguel
Finally, Christian Standhardinger is unleash. Finally, people are starting to talk about him and the possibility that he is really the top player of Ginebra. And with Justin Brownlee still a monster, I am looking forward to witness how coach Tim Cone will stir his team against credible foes in this playoffs.
