Unfortunately for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, they failed to defend their title in this 2023 PBA Governors' Cup.
Even though health could be the biggest reason for it, we still expect Ginebra to be ready for a trade for an upgrade of one of their position.
So, let me rank the players according to the likelihood that they are the next player to be traded.
#6 LA Tenorio, Christian Standhardinger, Jamie Malonzo
It is hard to see Ginebra trading these three core players anytime soon. Tenorio is near retirement and with his connection to the franchise, I do not think the management is even considering a trade. Standhardinger just prove that he can be the main man of the team. And Malonzo is proving also that his potential is really very high.
#5 Scottie Thompson
I put Thompson in #5 instead of #6 because of a legit rumor in the past that they are considering to trade him. There is a good chance that, that is not true today already.
#4 Raymond Aguilar, Nard Pinto, Von Pessumal
Unlike San Miguel, Ginebra usually do not trade role players that much. They usually make the good for great type of trades. Aguilar, Nard and Von are guys that actually have an important role in the bench of Ginebra.
#3 Jeremiah Gray, Jayson David
David is the type of young player that Ginebra loves to use in their farm team trade. Gray has garnered hate after his lackluster performance in the finals against TNT.
#2 Stanley Pringle
Pringle has shown glimpses of getting back to a starter-caliber player. This Governors' Cup, he averaged 6.6 points, 48% FG, 46% 3FG, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game. Unfortunately, it seems like he will not get back to his superstar form and it seems like coach Tim Cone is losing trust on him also.
#1Aljon Mariano, Sidney Onwubere
Knowing the history of Ginebra, they are fond of trading in-prime quality role players like Mariano and Onwubere. And the roles of this two players eroded in the last two years.
