Encho Serrano has decided to leave the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) for the time being, bidding farewell to his team, the Phoenix Super LPG. Multiple sources within the team have confirmed this news. This concludes Serrano's one-year tenure with the Fuel Masters.
Serrano was selected by Phoenix as the 19th overall pick in the 2022 PBA Rookie Draft, which was considered a steal. Throughout last season, the 24-year-old guard from Apalit, Pampanga, showcased his athleticism and skills, averaging 10.32 points, 3.68 rebounds, and 1.88 assists in 34 games. His performance in the Governors' Cup was even more impressive, with averages of 11.83 points, 4.25 rebounds, and 2.0 assists.
Initially signed to a one-year deal, Serrano is now set to join Gov. Delta Pineda's Pampanga Giant Lanterns, reuniting with his former coach. Just two years ago, Serrano led Pampanga to victory in the 2021 National Basketball League-Pilipinas. The Giant Lanterns currently hold a perfect 8-0 record in the current season.
This move marks Serrano's return to the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) after leading Basilan-Jumbo Plastic to victory in the 2021 Invitationals. His decision to leave the PBA for now suggests he is eager to continue his basketball career in the MPBL and reunite with familiar faces.
Serrano's departure from the PBA and his move to the successful Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the MPBL signifies a new chapter in his basketball journey. Fans will be eager to see how he contributes to his new team and the impact he can make in the league.
