While Gilas Pilipinas intensifies its preparations for the 2023 FIBA World Cup, Bobby Ray Parks Jr. has been drawn to different commitments. Instead of being with the national men's basketball team during this crucial phase, Parks was in Bali, Indonesia, accompanied by his girlfriend, Zeinab Harake.
In recent days, both Parks and Harake shared glimpses of their Bali trip on their individual Instagram accounts. This occurrence comes at a time when Parks' presence and contributions could have been pivotal for Gilas Pilipinas in the impending FIBA World Cup. His defensive prowess and sharpshooting abilities could have added value to the team's performance.
Although Parks showcased his talents in the earlier stages of Gilas' preparation, his involvement seems to have been compromised. Despite his commendable showings against Iran and Senegal during friendly games in China, Parks was notably absent from the team's recent encounters with Ivory Coast, Montenegro, and Mexico.
Recent reports from Spin.ph's Homer Sayson have indicated that Parks, along with fellow Japan B.League import Thirdy Ravena, has been officially removed from the Gilas 12 roster. While the specific reasons for Parks' removal have not been confirmed, speculation has arisen regarding the circumstances leading to his exclusion.
So, is Ray Parks not part of the Final 12 because he chose love?
I do not think so. As early as June, it was already reported that he is suffering from an injury. I think, that injury is worse than expected.
