PBA BREAKING NEWS! Converge added a big time coach!

Rajko Toroman, the Serbian coach who initially established the Gilas Pilipinas program, is making his return to the Philippine basketball scene. He will take on the role of coaching consultant for both Converge in the PBA and College of St. Benilde in the NCAA.

Sources indicate that Toroman is set to arrive from Serbia on Wednesday night, marking his re-entry into the Philippine basketball landscape.

Toroman's coaching prowess is well-known, having guided Iran to the pinnacle of Fiba Asia and a spot in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Subsequently, he was instrumental in launching the Smart Gilas program, overseeing the Philippine team's coaching from 2009 to 2011.

Familiar with the PBA environment, Toroman previously served as a consultant for the Petron Blaze Boosters in 2012. Despite a short stint, he left his mark in the league.

After his time with Petron, Toroman briefly collaborated with Barako Bull before progressing to coach the Jordanian national team and various professional basketball clubs. Notably, he led the Indonesian team from 2019 to 2022, including their victory over Gilas in the gold-medal match at the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

At College of St. Benilde, Toroman is set to collaborate with Blazers coach Charles Tiu. The partnership reunites the two, as Tiu was part of Toroman's staff during his tenure with Smart Gilas, showcasing their shared basketball insights and expertise.

So, is Converge setting up a head coach change knowing that coach Aldin Ayo just lost him mam due to cancer?

I doubt it. Coach Rajko Toroman is already 68 years old. At that age, teams will not anticipate them to coach that long. So, I do not think Converge will desire him. I think being a consultant is perfect for him.
