PBA Controversy: Rain or Shine superstar is still playing because?

James Yap is set to extend his tenure with Rain or Shine by signing a one-conference deal with the team. The 41-year-old veteran previously inked a similar arrangement in the last conference after his foray into politics, where he secured a seat in the San Juan city council.

Yap took a hiatus during the last Governors' Cup but made a successful return to the court. He originally joined the Elasto Painters in 2016, coming over from Magnolia in a trade involving Paul Lee. In his comeback, he posted an average of 5.2 points and a three-point shooting percentage of 28.6%.

Having committed to this new contract, the two-time PBA MVP has already been actively participating in Rain or Shine's practices, gearing up for the upcoming Commissioner's Cup scheduled for early November.

The reality is, there are a lot of players outside the PBA that is more deserving of the roster spot that James is currently using.

I will not blame Rain or Shine for keeping him. The guy is still one of the most popular player in the PBA. He is there most popular player.

Now I wonder though, why is James Yap still playing?

Is it really about his love for the game? Or he just wants to stay relevant for the sake of his political career? Or maybe he just wants a perfect send-off tournament?

But what if, he is still here, hoping that there will be a way for him to go back to the team that we all consider as his real home.
