Converge is easily the most puzzling team in the PBA right now!
In a shocking term of event, and first reported by Tiebreakertimes, Converge has officially cut ties with Jeron Teng, making him an unrestricted free agent. The FiberXers announced their decision in a memo sent to all PBA teams, despite Teng being a restricted free agent until Tuesday. His contract with Converge expired on August 31.
This move allows Teng the freedom to sign with any PBA team or explore overseas opportunities. Teng was one of the two remaining players on Converge who had previously been with the Alaska franchise, with Kevin Racal being the other. He was originally drafted as the seventh overall pick by the Aces in 2017.
Throughout his five seasons in the PBA, the 6-foot-2 forward has averaged 10.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game.
His most productive scoring season came a year ago when he averaged 12.9 points, along with 5.6 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 30 games played. With this release, Teng now has the opportunity to explore new opportunities in his basketball career.
Now, the big question is, why did they not pursue a trade instead? I am pretty sure that they have the financial capacity to do so.
