Frankie Lim and Dave Marcelo are set for a reunion at NLEX as the Road Warriors have acquired the burly big man. Marcelo became available when Rain or Shine decided to waive him after receiving him from TNT as part of the Henry Galinato trade.
The 34-year-old Marcelo, who boasts four championships in his five playing years with San Beda, all of which were achieved under Lim's leadership, is set to reunite with his former coach.
During his last playing season in 2011, Marcelo was even recognized as Finals MVP. He's now the latest addition to the growing list of former Lim players at San Beda who have found a home with the Road Warriors. Jake Pascual, for instance, joined NLEX as part of a three-team trade involving NLEX, Phoenix, and TNT.
Anthony Semerad, who has been with NLEX since 2020, also previously played under Lim's guidance with the Red Lions.
Is this a big signing and a big loss for NLEX and Rain or Shine, respectively?
To be honest, there are rookies out there who was not signed who could have gotten this spot in NLEX. NLEX choosing familiarity over potential is quite mind-boggling.
Rain or Shine already have a deep rotation in their frontline. What surprised me is that, why did they not ask for a player that they really need in that Galinato trade?
