PBA Free Agency: Northport superstar quits Japan B League!

The sudden departure of Robert Bolick from the Fukushima Firebonds took the basketball community by surprise, yet the reasoning behind his decision quickly became clear. Bolick, the former NorthPort standout, shed light on his choice to part ways with the Japan B.League second-division team, citing his wife Cassandra's 10-week pregnancy as the primary driver. Bolick's agent, Marvin Espiritu, emphasized that the move was a personal sacrifice to ensure a safe and secure pregnancy for his wife.

Following the announcement of their parting, Bolick had already boarded a flight back to Manila, leaving behind a multi-million-peso contract that guaranteed two years of substantial earnings, nearly reaching a million pesos each month, with an additional player's option for a third year. Despite the financial implications, the couple couldn't bear the strain of the home-and-away schedule inherent to the B.League, which would have necessitated extended periods of separation during road games.

While the Firebonds attempted to engage in discussions with Bolick about the possibility of him staying with the team, it became evident that the player's decision was resolute. In light of his unwavering stance, the club ultimately decided to honor his wishes and part ways amicably. Bolick's brief stint with the Firebonds saw him participate in only one game, where he made a notable contribution of 10 points, five rebounds, and two assists in an 18-minute showcase against Yamagata on October 7. However, following this game, Bolick opted to sit out the subsequent matches, ultimately leading to his departure from the team.
