Terrafirma's decision to place veteran guard Alex Cabagnot on the free agency list for the upcoming Season 48 of the PBA has paved the way for the 40-year-old to explore new opportunities in the league. As an unrestricted free agent, Cabagnot, who will be celebrating his 41st birthday in December, can freely negotiate and sign with any team without the need for a trade transaction.
Although Cabagnot still has an existing contract with the Dyip that is set to run until December, various teams have expressed interest in acquiring the services of the seasoned 6-foot guard. According to his representative Danny Espiritu, Cabagnot's free agent status has prompted a surge of inquiries from interested teams, providing him with more flexibility in choosing his next basketball journey. The official roster submitted by Terrafirma to the PBA office no longer includes Cabagnot, indicating an end to his nearly two-year tenure with the Dyip, which began with his unexpected trade from San Miguel in 2021 in exchange for Simon Enciso. Despite encountering a setback due to a torn Achilles tendon shortly after joining Terrafirma, Cabagnot demonstrated his value and was subsequently signed to a new two-year contract by the team.

Phoenix do not have a clear starting point guard. What they have is a deep guard rotation. Alex will bring playoff experience and a lot of advice that I think Tyler Tio will surely appreciate.

Northport is the number 1 team that is still in need of a point guard. They have Fran Yu is there for Northport to develop and Alex should be a big help.
