LA Tenorio has been reinstated to the active roster of Barangay Ginebra, setting the stage for his comeback in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup on Sunday. Tenorio has replaced Aljon Mariano, who has been moved to the team’s unrestricted free agent with rights to receive salary (UFAWR2RS) list.
This move makes Tenorio eligible to play in Ginebra’s upcoming game against Terrafirma, potentially marking his first court appearance since his recovery from colon cancer in September.
The 39-year-old player has not participated in a game since February 19, a few weeks before he announced his cancer diagnosis. His last game was against Blackwater in last season’s Governors’ Cup, where he scored eight points and secured two rebounds in nearly 15 minutes of play.
In the interim, Tenorio served as an assistant coach during Gilas Pilipinas’ gold-medal victory in the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, and has also been assisting with Ginebra’s PBA campaign from the bench.
As for Mariano, he has yet to make an appearance for Ginebra this season, but has been attending the games in street clothes.
It is quite shocking that they chose over their unproven rookies Ralph Cu and Donald Gumaru. I think Mariano is still the top player out of the three.
