Discussions are currently underway between NorthPort and Robert Bolick, even as the PBA season has already begun. Bonnie Tan, the coach of Batang Pier, revealed on Wednesday that talks with Bolick could lead to the star guard re-signing with the team.
Tan stated, “The conversation is ongoing. I’m not sure about the specifics of the negotiations. I don’t know if it has reached the point of discussing figures. But there is a dialogue.” This statement was made following NorthPort’s victory over Terrafirma on Wednesday.
When asked about a timeline for these discussions, Tan mentioned that there isn’t one. However, he did express optimism about the possibility of reaching an agreement during this conference, stating, “That I cannot answer but it’s possible. We have the rights to Bolick.”
Bolick, who is currently a restricted free agent, was released by the Fukushima Firebirds just two games into the current season of the Japan B.League. Despite this, NorthPort still retains his signing rights under PBA rules, even after his stint with the Japan team.
While the rumor mill, fueled by Snow Badua, churns with whispers of a potential trade involving Robert Bolick for Marcio Lassiter, the current negotiations seem to affirm that narrative. Considering the current situation, a Bolick for Lassiter trade make senses but it is obviously one-sided.
This adds an intriguing twist to the tale, casting a shadow of doubt over Coach Tan’s statement that figures have not yet entered the discussion. Could it be that the contract talks are further along than what is being publicly shared? Only time will tell.
