Baser Amer, a seasoned point guard in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA), is set to become an unrestricted free agent. His current contract with Blackwater is due to expire on December 31 of this year, marking the end of a nearly three-season partnership.
Amer, an eight-year pro and three-time All-Star, was traded to Blackwater by Meralco in exchange for Mac Belo and Bryan Faundo back in February 2021.
Despite early struggles due to injuries, Amer found a resurgence during the 2022 Commissioner’s Cup, averaging 18.4 points until a calf injury interrupted his career-best stretch. However, the same injury has limited his play in Season 48, with Amer only appearing in three games so far.
With Amer’s impending free agency, several teams should consider signing him. Here are the top three teams that could benefit from Amer’s experience and playmaking skills:
1. TNT Tropang Giga
TNT Tropang Giga is in obvious need of a point guard. Amer’s experience and skills could fill this gap and strengthen their roster.
2. Barangay Ginebra San Miguel
Barangay Ginebra’s LA Tenorio’s health status may be a concern. Acquiring another reliable point guard like Amer could be a strategic move for the playoffs.
3. NorthPort Batang Pier
While NorthPort’s Fran Yu shows promise, Amer’s experience and superior playmaking could be beneficial for their playoff appearance.
