I have decided to come up with a new annual ranking. Future of the League - Power Ranking! These are the top 13 26-and-Under player.
I rank them according to their current impact to the league and how high their potential is! Just in case we made a mistake about their age or we missed someone, please leave a comment and we will update the ranking!
#13. Santi Santillan (26 years old): Santi is slowly getting more responsibility under coach Yeng Guiao. In the 2024 Com. Cup, he produced 11.8 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.3 assists per game. With coach Yeng leading him, I expect him to keep improving until we recognized him as a credible star.
#12. Ricci Rivero (25 years old): He did not finish his UAAP career the way a college superstar do it. He failed to start his International league career. Under Phoenix, he may have found the right team who can cultivate him into a superstar. It will not be quick but the glimpses of stardom is obvious.
#11. Schonny Winston (25 years old): The #1 pick of the most recent draft, Stephen Holt, was not the only disappointment in the 2024 Com. Cup. There are high expectations for Schonny because of what he delivered in UAAP. He ended up struggling and averaged 8.4 points, 39% FG, 2.8 rebounds and 1.0 assist per game. Nevertheless, the crazy defense and superb shot-making was still obvious.
#10. Brandon Bates (26 years old): Brandon was not yet good enough to be a starter for Meralco but he showed enough to make it obvious that he can be the giant for the future of Meralco. Finding a giant who can defend the other giants of the opponent and will be a match-up nightmare is gold for the future of Meralco.
#9. Gian Mamuyac (24 years old): The rise of Andrei Caracut has overshadowed the brilliance that Gian continue to exhibit in his second season in the league. He manufactured 8.2 points, 48% FG, 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 assists per game. Watch him closely when he plays on both ends of the court and you will see a savant. Advance Stats support this with his 9.9 Net Rating.
#8. Alec Stockton (25 years old): I will not be shocked if there are some of you who are not even familiar with Alec. He is a starting guard of Converge and he averaged 9.7 points, 55% FG, 44% 3FG, 2.7 rebounds and 2.1 assists in 2024 Com. Cup. His steady improvement and his top 10 perimeter defense pushed him to this high spot.
#7. Christian David (25 years old): The expectations around Christian was not that high because he was not really spectacular in the US. Nevertheless, he showed improvement in his production during the elimination round and I think it is clear that he may have the highest potential in this ranking except for the next guy.
#6. Luis Villegas (26 years old): Keith Datu, his supposed partner, was awesome in 2024 Com. Cup. Luis is expected to debut this Philippine Cup. The expectation around him is really high. I think he has the highest potential because of the combination of elite rim protection and elite outside shooting. The only risk is the potential impact of his injury.
