PBA Controversy: Magnolia should embraced the "farm" teams?

Magnolia Hotshots, a team known for its strong performances in the elimination rounds and reaching the finals, has been consistently falling short of clinching the championship title.

This pattern has led fans of other teams to teasingly refer to them as “Introvoys”, a nod to their ability to get close to the crown but failing to secure it.

In 2019, Magnolia reached the Philippine Cup finals, only to be defeated by San Miguel in game 7. The story repeated itself in 2021 when they again made it to the finals of the Philippine Cup but fell short.

In the 2022 Governors Cup, despite being the #1 team after the elimination round, they ended up in the semifinals. The 2023 Commissioners Cup saw a similar pattern, with Magnolia tying the Bay Area Dragons for the best record but only making it to the semis.

Given this history, it’s worth asking: is it time for Magnolia to maximize the so-called farm team of Northport? They have been conservative in making trades for several years, with their last notable trade being for Abu Tratter last year.

However, to break their championship drought, Magnolia might need to consider trading for a star-level player. Arvin Tolentino, the superb rising sniper of Northport, could be the perfect addition to the core of Magnolia. His skills and potential could provide the boost Magnolia needs to finally secure the championship title.

The question remains: will Magnolia finally make this move? Only time will tell. But one thing is certain - something needs to change if Magnolia wants to shake off the “Introvoys” tag and finally claim the crown that has eluded them for so long.
