PBA Controversy: Magnolia Forward is a DESERVING ALL-STAR?

Aris Dionisio's phone must be buzzing. The Magnolia wingman is headed to his first PBA All-Star game, replacing the injured Scottie Thompson on Team Japeth.  This is a big leap for the 28-year-old, especially considering his recent contract extension with the Hotshots.

But Dionisio's selection raises an eyebrow or two.  His stat sheet isn't exactly screaming "All-Star." Whispers of Nard Pinto and even James Yap's fan-vote propelled All-Star appearances in the past, but this is a different scenario.  Dionisio wasn't exactly a runaway fan favorite this year.

Thompson's injury leaves some big shoes to fill.  The former MVP was captain of the opposing All-Star team last year.  Dionisio will share the Team Japeth backcourt with the likes of Roger Pogoy, another injury replacement.  Can he hold his own amongst this collection of established stars?

The PBA prides itself on showcasing its best, and Dionisio's selection sparks a debate.  Is this a case of rewarding a young player with a bright future, or is there someone out there who put together a more All-Star worthy season?

Time will tell how Dionisio performs under the bright lights, but his selection guarantees some interesting chatter amongst PBA fans until the mid-season classic tips off.
