MPBL Analysis: MPBL should do these steps to OVERTAKE the PBA!

When Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League started in 2017, nobody expected that they will still be here by 2024. We all saw how short MBL played out, a few decades ago.

What makes it even more shocking now is the reality that MPBL is actually gaining momentum. They are gaining momentum because it offers fans a real reason to be a fan because teams represent a city or a province. So, connections are easy to established.

Now, MPBL should realize the opportunity that they are facing and try to overtake the oldest professional basketball league in Asia!

How?

Let me suggest the following steps!

#1. Create a mobile application dedicated to MPBL!

We are now in the era of on-hand entertainment. MPBL should prioritize creating an easy-to-use mobile application that fans can easily use to watch the games live, to watch highlights, to watch interviews, to interact with their players and many more. They can offer free prediction games in the application with real ticket and prizes to get the hype for the app!

#2. Penalize teams who are failing to reach the playoffs

The MPBL management should be well aware about the disdain of Filipinos about the lack of parity in the PBA. It should be their priority to lock the door to teams that will enter MPBL without prioritizing winning the crown. The easiest way to do this is to come up with a rule that will suspend teams who failed to reach the playoffs for a number of seasons. When I say suspend, they are not allowed to join a season or two.

Just an example, a team that will fail to reach the playoffs for six seasons will not be allowed to play in the league for one season.

#3. Create rules and regulations that is available to the public

One of the things that make PBA hard for Pinoy basketball fans to love is the lack of openness to the public. MPBL should follow the NBA and start crafting rules in every aspect that a normal basketball professional league should have. Like trading players, salary cap, free agency and etc.

Make it public, so that the league, no matter who will the management in the future, will be accountable to the people.
