So, Barangay Ginebra is hurting. Jamie Malonzo goes down with an injury, and suddenly Tim Cone's looking across the PBA landscape with a furrowed brow. Enter the MPBL, that wild west of Filipino hoops, a breeding ground for diamonds in the rough (or maybe cubic zirconia, we'll see).
Here are 5 MPBL names Ginebra might be kicking the tires on:
5. Gab Banal
Look, Banal's a known commodity. Dude's been bouncing around the PBA for years without quite cracking the rotation. But here's the thing: he can shoot, and he can defend. If Ginebra just needs a wing to soak up minutes and hit the occasional three while Malonzo recovers, Banal might be a flyer worth taking.
4. Michael Canete
Meralco cast-off alert! Canete's lighting it up with the Abra Weavers, raining threes like they're going out of style. Ginebra's been a little light on lights-out shooting lately, and Canete could be a sparkplug off the bench. Just gotta hope he can translate that MPBL flame to the brighter PBA stage.

Levi Hernandez is a scorer, no question. Dude's got a scorer's mentality, which can be a double-edged sword. He can get hot, but he can also disappear on defense. If Cone trusts his system to mask some defensive holes, Hernandez could be a source of instant offense. But buyer beware, this might be a boom-or-bust situation.

Now we're talking! Bonifacio's putting up monster numbers in the MPBL – points, rebounds, assists, you name it. He's a stat-sheet stuffer, exactly the kind of player Cone loves to plug into his system. The question is, can he translate that well-rounded game to the tougher competition?
1. Carl Bryan Cruz
Okay, this one's a no-brainer. The name recognition alone makes Cruz an intriguing option. He's a walking highlight reel in the MPBL, a rim-rattling, shot-blocking machine. But he can also put the ball on the floor and create for himself and others. If Ginebra wants a splashy addition to make fans forget about Malonzo (not gonna happen, but hey!), Cruz is the guy.
