PBA Power Ranking: Is Magnolia a LEGIT Championship contender?

It is not surprising that after a very exciting early part of the elimination round, we are now again looking at three SMC teams at the top of the standings.

So, it is time to update our power ranking! I decided not to include Converge already because they are already eliminated!

#11. Phoenix
Phoenix is still fighting for a playoff spot but the path to achieving it will not be easy. The injury to Tyler Tio created a big hole into the rotation of Phoenix.

#10. Blackwater
It is hard for me to trust them because they are lacking game-changing talent in their roster. Their third best defense though is a big positive for them.

#9. Northport
They are a big drop-off after their hot start in this tournament. Arvin Tolentino is still hot though with his 20.5 points per game in 44% FG per game.

#8. Meralco
The return of Brandon Bates is crucial for Meralco. Unfortunately, Raymond Almazan is now on the middle of an off-the-court issue.

#7. Terrafirma
I consider Terrafirma as a dark horse. That is if the management are really looking to at least reach the semifinals. I think, they have the ingredients to do so. Specially with the sustained form of Holt.

#6. NLEX
There is actually a good argument that Terrafirma could be a better choice for this spot. For NLEX, this is all about the level that Robert Bolick can reach in the playoffs.

#5. Rain or Shine
Rain or Shine badly need at least one of Keith Datu and Luis Villegas to be there during the playoffs. That way, Santi Santillan and Beau Belga can play their more natural positions.

#4. Magnolia
It is really amazing that coach Chito Victolero has kept Magnolia focus even with their sustained failure of getting the championship.

#3. TNT
TNT is not yet playing to their real potential but I think they have what it takes to get the championship. Specially with the current play of Calvin Oftana.

#2. Ginebra
The injury to Jamie Malonzo is a big black eye to Ginebra but the sudden rise of Ralph Cu is helping them overcome it.

#1. San Miguel
San Miguel is playing in another level right now. They gained their confidence last tournament and now they are just trusting the system of coach Gallent.
