PBA Trade Rumors: Ginebra chant of Calvin means?

Hold onto your Ginebra San Miguel, folks, because Calvin Abueva, everyone's favorite walking paradox, is back at it.  This time, the plot thickens in the PBA quarterfinals after a head-scratching incident involving… chanting?  Yes, you read that right.  During Magnolia's elimination loss to Ginebra, Abueva was caught on camera leading the crowd in a spirited rendition of  "Ginebra! Pakinggan mo!" – a cheer typically reserved for the opposing team's faithful.

So, what are we to make of this? Is Abueva, the guy who Magnolia fans have embraced despite his checkered past, secretly yearning for a spot on Ginebra's iconic hardwood?  Let's rewind a bit.

Remember that interview from last year where Abueva confessed his lifelong dream of playing for Ginebra?  Yeah, that was a thing.  Apparently, the "Beast" has always held the most popular team in the PBA in high regard.  Maybe this latest stunt is his own personal version of subliminal messaging to the SMC bigwigs.

But before we declare Abueva a Ginebra fanboy infiltrating Magnolia's ranks, let's pump the brakes.  The cynics out there might point to Abueva's stat line – 8 points, 9 rebounds, 3 steals, but a team-worst -14 plus-minus.  Was the chanting a desperate ploy to mask a less-than-stellar performance?  Or maybe, just maybe, Abueva was simply venting his frustration in the heat of a high-pressure playoff game.

Here's the thing: Abueva is a walking enigma.  He's capable of highlight-reel hustle and head-scratching decisions in equal measure.  Is his Ginebra chant a trade request in disguise?  Maybe.  Or maybe it was just a moment of bizarre sportsmanship.  Only Abueva knows for sure.

One thing's for certain: with the SMC group owning both Magnolia and Ginebra, the possibility of an Abueva-in-Ginebra jersey can't be entirely ruled out.  Stranger things have happened in the PBA.  In the meantime, we'll be waiting with bated breath for Abueva's next act.  Will he double down on his Ginebra love, or will this whole thing fade away faster than a Barangay Ginebra practice session (Zing!)?  Stay tuned, folks, the Abueva saga continues.
