Here is our first ranking of the teams for the upcoming 2024 Governors Cup! Who is the favorite for the crown?
#12. Northport
The choice of import of Northport is questionable and with the current movement of their players, Northport should be the last place for now.
#11. NLEX
Robert Bolick will be one of the biggest beneficiary of the 4-point shot. But, his supporting group may not be good enough to help him push for a wild run.
#10. Converge
Justin Baltazar may not be able to play in this Governors Cup because of his commitment to MPBL. They also did not pick a blue-chip import.
#9. Terrafirma
I am actually excited to see the play of Terrafirma. With Christian Standhardinger at their disposal, Terrafirma have one of the two most dominant giants in the league. They have size and scoring. Unfortunately, their import choice is a big question mark.
#8. Blackwater
Blackwater is bringing a legit scorer of an import in Ricky Ledo. Sedrick Barefield will also play for them. If these two players can create good music on the court, Blackwater can deliver a surprising run.
#7. Phoenix
I expect Phoenix to be one of the biggest beneficiary of the 4-point shot. They chose a high-quality import and Kai Ballungay is coming to help their issues in the Frontline.
#6.Rain or Shine
Another team that is very exciting and could give us a good run in the playoffs. With the upcoming debut of Luis Villegas and the addition of their rookies, Rain or Shine could be very deep and malleable to battle the high talent level of the other teams.
#5. TNT
The addition of Rey Nambatac pump up the talent level of the team. But health is crucial for this team. Darius Days is a dark horse Best Import candidate.
#4. Ginebra
It is hard to rank coach Tim this low but with the big trade that they made and the need for time to develop the chemistry of their core, I think this is the right spot for them.
#3. San Miguel
We are anticipating them to make a trade for additional talents. They decided to bring a role player as an import. Is this the right decision?
#2. Meralco
Meralco over SMB and Ginebra is just logical because they defeated in the AFC and Meralco's line-up is intact and SMB and Ginebra did not make trades to improve theirs.
#1. Magnolia
I need to put them at the top. There is a good chance that Glenn Robinson III will be having a tournament that clearly showcase him as the best import in the league. Their line-up is also more balance with the arrival of Zav Lucero.
