In the middle of the massive trades in the last few days, we have a simple swap between Barangay Ginebra and Northport. Northport got back Sidney Onwubere in exchange for Ben Adamos.
The first thing that entered my mind when I saw the trade is that, why did Ginebra just ordered Northport to release him so that they can sign him for nothing.
Now, who won the trade?
If we will only look at their age and size, Ginebra clearly wins because Adamos is at 6'7 and he is two years younger compared to 6'4 Onwubere.
But, if we consider what they have shown in the league, I think Northport is the winner of the trade. Yes, it is funny that they traded back for Onwubere and that they gave up a bigger player to get him. But, Sidney is the better player.
He is an undersize bigman that knows his role very well. He will not bring size but what he brings is a complementary defensive skillset.
On the other hand, it is up to coach Tim Cone to unlock the real Adamos because a lot of coaches and teams tried already.
Yes, in our evaluation, Northport won this trade!
