PBA Analysis: SMB legend Fajardo will get his 9th MVP this season, RIGHT?

Junemar Fajardo’s eighth MVP award cemented his status as the most dominant force in PBA history. But as the new season looms, one of the most intriguing questions is whether he can capture an unprecedented ninth MVP title or if we’ll see a new face take the throne.

Fajardo’s achievements are legendary. His dominance in the paint, his rebounding prowess, and his scoring efficiency have consistently made him the most valuable player in the league. Even last season, despite dealing with injuries, Fajardo led San Miguel Beer to a Commissioner's Cup title and came close in the Philippine Cup. His resilience and ability to perform at a high level despite setbacks have made him a perennial MVP candidate. Yet, as we look ahead, there are several factors that suggest his ninth MVP might be more challenging to secure.

First, there's the return of a healthy Scottie Thompson. Thompson, the reigning Finals MVP, has been a significant player in the league and could pose a serious threat to Fajardo’s MVP run. Known for his versatility and all-around game, Thompson could capitalize on a strong Ginebra team and his leadership role to make a compelling MVP case.

Then there’s Meralco’s rise. The Bolts have consistently improved, and with a stronger supporting cast, players like Chris Newsome or even newly acquired talents could challenge for the MVP. Meralco’s ascension could bring about more competition for Fajardo, especially if they outperform San Miguel in the standings.

Another factor is the potential upheaval at TNT. With key players and a solid system in place, TNT might see someone emerge as an MVP contender, especially if they can dethrone San Miguel in pivotal games or playoff series.

But despite these challenges, if betting on Fajardo were the game, putting your money on him might still be the smarter play. The key, as always, is his health. Fajardo’s game hasn’t shown signs of decline, and as long as he remains on the court, his presence alone can tilt the MVP race in his favor. His consistency is unmatched, and in a league where performance and results are heavily scrutinized, Fajardo’s ability to anchor his team to victories remains his greatest asset.

Ultimately, the MVP race will likely come down to Fajardo’s health and the performances of the emerging challengers. But given his track record and his ability to deliver when it matters most, betting against Fajardo might still be the risky move. Unless injuries derail him again, the "Kraken" could very well add a ninth MVP trophy to his collection, further solidifying his legacy as the greatest to ever play in the PBA.
