With the PBA Commissioner's Cup approaching on November 27, unrestricted free agent Troy Rosario is yet to decide on his next team, making him one of the hottest commodities in the league. After reportedly turning down Blackwater’s generous P900,000 monthly offer that included perks and bonuses for five years, several teams have joined the hunt for the talented power forward. Among them, Converge FiberXers have emerged as a serious contender, reportedly offering P950,000 per month in an effort to bolster their roster in their quest for a championship.
Interestingly, TNT Tropang Giga, Rosario’s former team, made the least lucrative offer, relying on its winning culture and tradition to attract him back. Although TNT’s financial proposal is lower than other suitors, there are hints that the team may increase its offer in future meetings, particularly if they want to remain competitive in the bidding war for the 6-foot-7 forward.
Rosario is certainly enjoying the attention, expressing that the interest from multiple teams has shown him his true value in the league. “Dun ko nararamdaman na may value pala ako. Yun din reason bakit ko in-explore ang free agency,” Rosario said, explaining how the courtship process has been validating for him. While he is close to a decision, he is waiting for one final meeting before making the call.
What makes this free agency chase particularly intriguing is the potential involvement of San Miguel Corporation (SMC) teams. Snow Badua recently posted that Barangay Ginebra might be the SMC squad pursuing Rosario, and this development has sparked mixed reactions from fans. Some San Miguel Beermen supporters may not be thrilled at the idea of Rosario potentially strengthening a Ginebra squad that just defeated them in the Governors' Cup Finals. Ginebra, which is dealing with injuries and an aging frontcourt led by Japeth Aguilar, could significantly benefit from Rosario’s versatility, size, and scoring ability.
While Ginebra’s need for a big man is evident, Rosario’s fit with San Miguel Beermen is also tantalizing, especially with June Mar Fajardo needing a capable partner in the paint. Rosario’s ability to stretch the floor with his mid-range shooting and defend multiple positions could make him the perfect addition to help San Miguel contend again, after their painful loss to Ginebra.
Still, many PBA fans are rooting for Rosario to land with Converge and join forces with Justin Baltazar, forming a powerful frontcourt that could help elevate the FiberXers into true championship contenders. Converge, as an independent team without the resources of the SMC or MVP groups, offers a unique and refreshing opportunity for Rosario to lead a franchise into uncharted success.
With the basketball world waiting on Troy Rosario’s decision, the next few days will be critical. Whether it’s Ginebra, San Miguel, or Converge, whichever team lands him is bound to make a massive impact on the upcoming season. All eyes are now on the big man as he nears his highly anticipated choice.
