A recent rumor posted by PBA insider Snow Badua has created a buzz among fans: Stanley Pringle is now a free agent following the expiration of his contract. The question on everyone’s mind is: will Pringle return to Barangay Ginebra, seek a fresh start with a new team, or even explore options overseas?
Pringle’s future is a hot topic for several reasons. First, if Pringle were to leave Barangay Ginebra, it would raise fresh scrutiny on the 2021 trade that sent Christian Standhardinger to the team from NorthPort Batang Pier while Ginebra traded away Pringle to NorthPort.
This trade already brought mixed reactions, as Pringle was a former Best Player of the Conference and crucial to Ginebra’s title success. If Pringle walks away in free agency, Terrafirma could be seen as having lost even more value in their original deal involving Standhardinger.
Despite his age, Pringle remains one of the league’s premier scorers, showcasing his scoring prowess consistently. Teams in the PBA are still likely to express interest in him, given his offensive versatility and shot-creating abilities. However, Pringle’s age and injury history might make an overseas move less likely, though not out of the questions especially if he’s looking for one last substantial contract.
If Ginebra is an option, it’s possible they would welcome Pringle back with open arms. Notably, there hasn’t been any significant negativity from Pringle towards Ginebra since his departure, and Ginebra’s system under Coach Tim Cone could once again be an appealing fit for Pringle’s game. His veteran leadership and ability to score in isolation could further strengthen Ginebra’s guard rotation, especially if they’re looking for a steady presence alongside younger, up-and-coming guards.
However, Pringle’s future decision will be influenced by his own priorities: is he looking for one last big contract, a stable role, or a chance to join a contender?
