PBA Trade Rumors: San Miguel-TNT blockbuster trade suggestion or SOON?

Rumors are swirling that San Miguel Beer may use newly acquired Andreas Cahilig as a trade asset to pursue the rights to Mikey Williams from TNT Tropang Giga. These speculations have intensified after Snow Badua hinted that Cahilig is a target for TNT, making the scenario plausible.

A fan of Converge recently floated a trade proposal involving the following:

TNT trades: Mikey Williams' rights.

San Miguel trades: Avan Nava and Andreas Cahilig.

The rationale behind this proposal is TNT’s potential interest in Cahilig’s versatility and Nava’s rookie upside. If TNT believes in Nava’s development and values Cahilig's defensive skills, this trade could address their needs while unloading Williams, whose future with the team remains uncertain due to ongoing contract issues.

However, if Mikey Williams is willing to play again, the competition for his services could heat up. Teams like Magnolia or Meralco, which are in desperate need of a scoring guard, might present more enticing offers. Moreover, TNT might hold out for a deal that includes a higher-tier player or future draft picks, considering Williams' MVP-caliber impact when engaged.

Cahilig has proven to be a hardworking and adaptable player, qualities that fit TNT’s culture under Coach Jojo Lastimosa. His ability to guard multiple positions and contribute without dominating the ball makes him a valuable asset for a team potentially rebuilding around Mikey's departure.

Will It Happen?

Ultimately, this rumored trade hinges on several factors:

Williams' intent: If he decides to play overseas or continues his stand-off with TNT, his trade value diminishes.

TNT’s strategy:: Are they looking to compete immediately or prioritize long-term pieces?

San Miguel’s willingness to add incentives: Would SMB be ready to sweeten the deal with draft picks or additional assets?

While the proposed trade involving Cahilig and Nava is intriguing, it remains to be seen whether TNT can secure better offers, especially if Mikey Williams is open to continuing his PBA career. Fans can only speculate for now, but the situation certainly adds drama to the league's midseason narrative.
