Justin Arana has unexpectedly become one of the most talked-about names in PBA trade rumors. But this buzz isn’t about his on-court performances—it’s about his potential involvement in trade talks. Recent rumors linking Arana to a possible swap for Mikey Williams have ignited debates across the PBA community.
From our perspective, Converge should not entertain a straight swap of Arana for Williams. The age gap between the two, combined with the scarcity and value of dominant centers like Arana, makes it a questionable move. Instead, the focus should shift to understanding Arana’s true trade value. With that in mind, here are the three “worst” players that Converge should still consider trading Arana for in a straight swap.
#3. Joshua Munzon
Joshua Munzon has finally found his groove this season, delivering on the promise he showed as the top overall pick in the 2021 PBA Draft. Munzon’s elite defensive disruption, combined with his steadily improving offensive skill set, makes him an intriguing option for Converge. Trading Arana for Munzon would allow Converge to add a versatile wing player who can contribute on both ends. Though Arana’s positional importance as a center might still outweigh Munzon’s rising value, this trade would at least make some sense for Converge.
#2. Troy Rosario
While the 32-year-old Troy Rosario is nearing the tail end of his prime, his experience and versatility remain valuable assets. Rosario’s ability to stretch the floor, defend multiple positions, and step up in playoff situations could make him a short-term upgrade for Converge. The major downside is the age difference between Rosario and Arana, which would leave Converge gambling on a “win-now” approach instead of building for the future. This move would make sense only if Converge is fully committed to making a deep playoff push immediately.
#1. Keith Datu
Keith Datu is the baseline for what Converge should consider acceptable in a trade involving Arana. While Datu lacks Arana’s polished post game, his size and reliable outside shooting provide a different kind of value. At 6’8”, Datu brings the physicality and spacing that modern teams crave from big men. Trading Arana for Datu would be a significant downgrade in some areas, but Datu’s shooting and stretch-four potential could fill a crucial offensive need for Converge.
